Playa de Papagayo

The most famous beach in the area is Playa de Papagayo. This picturesque cove boasts stunning turquoise waters and soft golden sand. Framed by tall cliffs, the beach provides calm waters that are perfect for swimming and sunbathing.

To make the most of your visit, plan to arrive early, especially during the busy summer months when visitor numbers peak. From here you can enjoy a beautiful sunset.

Playa Mujeres - the westernmost

The westernmost and largest of the Papagajo beaches. With golden yellow sand and crystal clear water, like the other beaches in the area, it offers an enchanting spectacle. The presence of dunes offers space for privacy and the stone buildings arranged in a semicircle protect from the wind.

When the water is low, you can walk along the shoreline to reach the nearby beaches, thus avoiding the more tiring route up the hills.

Playa de la Cruz - for nudists and others

Also called Playa del Pozo, like the other beaches in the area, it has a surface of golden sand surrounded by rocky cliffs. It is large and spacious, characterized by the presence of dunes, caves and rocky cliffs, an opportunity for those who do not want to spread their towel on the sand or seek shelter from the wind.

The Playa de la Cruz car park is located in the hills, right next to the Playa de Papagayo car park, so it takes about a five minute walk to reach the beach.

Caletòn del Cobre - sheltered from the wind

It is a small cove located between Playa Mujeres and Playa de la Cruz, 40 meters long by 3 meters wide, bathed by calm waters.

Very sheltered from the wind, it is perfect for swimming and enjoying the sun both as a family and as a couple.

The Caletòn del Cobre car park is located in the hills, right next to the Playa de Papagayo car park, so it takes about a ten minute walk to reach the beach.

Chosen by lovers of naturism and nudism, a bathing suit is not needed here!

Playa Puerto Muelas - the easternmost

The easternmost of the Papagajo beaches has a surface area of approximately 150 m with light sand, volcanic rocks, and an enchanting view: on clear days it seems like you can touch the island of Fuerteventura, located right in front.

Near Puerto Muelas beach there is a large car park, with a designated area for campers, often used by Lanzarote residents and tourists. In high season it is advisable to arrive early to find parking.

In the past it was a nudist beach, while now it is frequented by anyone and is perfect for families.

Playa de la Cera - reach the chiringuito on foot

Golden sand and cliffs that protect from the wind: on a naturalistic level this beach is similar to the others, but being quite large there is more space even in high season.

From here the Playa de Papagayo chiringuito is within walking distance, where you can buy delicious Spanish and international dishes and take them to the beach.

At low tide you can reach on foot Playa de la Cruz.

Playa Caleton San Marcial - very calm waters

A small bay, only 35 meters long and about 6 meters wide, located between Playa Mujeres and Playa de la Cruz. Caletón San Marcial is characterized by very light yellow ocher sand and very calm waters, which allows both excellent bathing and the anchoring of small boats.

To reach the beach by car, you need to pay a small fee to access the natural park, however the Playa Mujeres parking area is right next to the beach.

Caleta del Congrio - very large bay

Wonderful like the others, with a backdrop of lava rocks and golden sand, it is located in the center of the area. After accessing the park you have to drive 5 minutes following the signs to get to the Caleta del Congrio, the car park and the nearby Playa Puero Muelas.

Once intended for nudists, today it is open to all. The only services available are the toilets in the parking area. Like some others it's completely natural, so you need to equip yourself with everything you need to spend the day.

This bay is very large and poorly protected and the waves can get quite high. There are no lifeguards. Therefore, special attention must be paid to children.

Access & amenities

BY CAR - To reach the Punta Papagajo area you must access the natural park by paying a small entry fee to maintain the park's pristine state, which is around 3 euros per person. Then continue by car, following the directions, to the chosen beach.

ON FOOT - The park is dotted with paths and routes between the volcanoes which make it accessible on foot, but the walking times can be a little long. If you love walking you can reach Playa de Papagayo and the adjacent beaches on foot along the seafront road from the marina of Marina Rubicón located in the town of Playa Blanca and then a dirt road in the park.

The beaches of Punta Papagayo are completely natural: you will not find umbrellas, and often not even natural shade. Remember that facilities are limited, so it is wise to come prepared. Bring ample water, snacks, and sun protection and beach umbrella for children.

There are two beautiful chiringuitos at the top of the Punta Papagayo cliffs where the view is breathtaking. However, they are usually very crowded. If you want to stop for lunch we recommend making a reservation. Prices are a little higher than other places on the island, but the view is not to be missed.
